Advanced Controls

This class is a continuation from the Basic Controls Class; we start where that class stopped. We start by exploring Speci5 and Modi5 more in depth and have several hands on exercises to highlight what is possible with this software. We will continue by discussing the ECO Networking more in depth and take a whole day just discussing its features, advantages, and capabilities. We will have several hands on examples including setting up and operating a network of compressors on a live system. We will also discuss Gateway Commissioning along with other advanced control options which include the wall mounted EControl and the Net$ync II. The class size is limited to ensure that everyone has more opportunity for hands on exercises.

Variable Frequency Drives (VFD)
This course covers the principles of how variable speed drives and induction motors work together to operate a Quincy Compressor. We will discuss the basic theory behind variable speed drives and the configuration of each drive used on Quincy Compressors today. We will discuss the application and environments suitable for VFD compressors. Also we will look into common issues and ways to correct them. We will discuss and use the tools needed to communicate and operate with the various drives you will find on current production Quincy Compressors. Oil Free Air (OFA) 1
This is an introductory class to Quincy Compressor’s line of QOF scroll and WisAir oil free compressors. We will cover commissioning and start-up, as well as routine service and service schedules. We will cover tip seal replacement and regreasing of the pin crank bearings and the orbiting scroll bearing and belt replacement for the QOF scroll compressors. We will also cover commissioning, start-up, and all recommended services for the WisAir compressors. Controls on the different packages will also be covered. More

Refrigerated Dryers (Includes Refrigeration Certification)
This class is designed for the tech moving into the refrigeration field of the compressed air system. In this class, you will learn refrigeration theory, and refrigeration system operation and troubleshooting. You will also have the opportunity to earn your EPA608 certification with R410A. You must complete all class objectives and pass all required tests in order to pass the class as well as earn your certification. This class will require study during off time for the EPA certification. You will also need your laptop, safety shoes and safety glasses. More

Desiccant Dryers
Purpose: This Class is designed to familiarize the student with the design, construction, working principals, and function of Quincy Desiccant Dryers. Specifically, how each series of dryer works differently than others, several calculations, and their results are used to determine proper and efficient operation.


Format: This class will use a combination of instructor lead classroom training presentations, hands on inspection of smaller training aids (components, sensors, cutaways, etc.) and training machines.
Objectives: The following KSA’s have been established for this Class –

1. Understand (refresh) safety requirements, including PPE, procedures, Customer communication, etc. related to servicing desiccant dryers in the shop or onsite.

2. Identify special tools, PPE, or procedures unique to this machine and to the Technician.
a. Dew Point Meter

3. Identify the intended purpose of a desiccant dryer, including increased efficiency (reduced cost of operation) reliability, and proper operation of desiccant dryers.

4. Identify components and component function on each series of dryer.

5. Installation and commissioning of the dryer.

6. Perform periodic (preventative) maintenance on the dryer.

7. Identify common maintenance activities on the dryer.

8. Perform basic troubleshooting and repair of the dryer.

Methods: The methods and metrics listed below are used in this Class –

1. Class size is limited to fifteen (15).

2. Classroom material will presented using PowerPoint presentation(s)

3. Related cutaways and small components.

4. This Class will rely on a significant amount of hands-on training onsite

5. Daily and end-of-class quizzes/tests.

Other: Please bring your laptop and related cables (related to this Class/Product) with you. Please insure the laptop is problem free, and ready to use. Please check with your IT Department and resolve any issues before coming to class.

Basic Control
This class is an introduction to Quincy’s newest family of controllers. We will cover all screens on the new controllers and how they are used. We will discuss the software we use to program, modify, and integrate with the new controllers; Speci5, Modi5, and others. We will download software to the controllers along with other hands-on exercises pertaining to controls, networking, and monitoring. We will discuss the capabilities of the new controllers along with the systems that accompany it such as ICONS. We will discuss our retrofit strategy from our older controls to the newest family of controls so that they can seamlessly integrate and communicate with each other. This will be an introduction to the controllers found on Quincy compressors along with hands-on exercises and examples throughout the class with each topic. More

We will cover the operation of the Q Control controller. We will provide training of commissioning and start-up procedures. We will also introduce the technology of SPM (Shock Pulse Monitoring), as this is a requirement to record at start-up and during service or airend replacement. More
